How to Build a Business That Works for You—Not the Other Way Around

For so many moms, the dream of running a business starts with a simple goal: freedom. The freedom to set your own schedule, to be present for your kids, and to create something that aligns with your passions. But too often, that dream turns into a never-ending cycle of exhaustion, where your business runs you instead of the other way around.

If you feel like you’re constantly overworked, overwhelmed, and underpaid, it’s time to shift your strategy. You didn’t start your business to create another job—you started it to create a better life. Here’s how to build a business that actually works for you, not the other way around.

1. Get Clear on What You Actually Want

Before you can build a business that works for you, you have to define what “working for you” actually means.

Ask yourself:
How many hours per week do I realistically want to work?
What kind of lifestyle do I want my business to support?
What tasks drain me, and what tasks energize me?

Too many entrepreneurs structure their business around what they think they should be doing, rather than what actually aligns with their lifestyle goals. If you want flexibility, build systems that allow for passive income, automation, or client work that doesn’t require 24/7 availability.

Action Step: Write down a vision for your business that prioritizes your ideal lifestyle first, then structure your offers around that vision.

2. Automate, Delegate, or Delete

Many mompreneurs are drowning in busywork, spending hours on tasks that don’t actually move their business forward. If you’re constantly stuck in low-value tasks like answering emails, creating graphics, or manually scheduling clients, it’s time to simplify.

You have three choices for any task that eats up your time:
🔹 Automate it – Use tools like Calendly, Dubsado, or Zapier to take repetitive tasks off your plate.
🔹 Delegate it – Hire a VA, contractor, or team member to handle admin work so you can focus on growth.
🔹 Delete it – Ask yourself: Do I actually need to do this, or am I doing it out of habit? If it doesn’t bring revenue or peace, cut it.

Action Step: Look at your daily tasks and find at least three you can automate, delegate, or delete.

3. Set Boundaries (And Stick to Them)

One of the biggest reasons moms feel trapped in their businesses is because they never set clear boundaries—with clients, family, or even themselves.

If you’re constantly saying “yes” to everything, you’re actually saying “no” to the freedom you wanted in the first place.

Non-Negotiable Boundaries for Mompreneurs:

Work Hours: Set a schedule that works for YOU (not just when clients want you available).
Client Communication: No answering messages at 10 PM. Set expectations early.
Family & Personal Time: You’re not available 24/7 just because you work from home.

Boundaries don’t make you unprofessional—they make you sustainable. The more structure you create, the more freedom you actually have.

Action Step: Define 3 firm business boundaries and communicate them clearly to clients and family.

4. Charge for the Life You Want, Not the Life You Have

Many moms undercharge for their services because they feel guilty charging “too much.” But here’s the truth: your business can’t work for you if it’s not paying you enough to live the life you want.

If your current pricing only allows you to survive, it’s time to shift to pricing that allows you to thrive.

How to Set Pricing That Works for You:

✅ Calculate how much you actually need to make per month.
✅ Set your prices based on value, not just time spent.
✅ Offer high-value packages or digital products that create more income with less effort.

Action Step: Audit your prices—are they funding the life you want, or keeping you in hustle mode? If not, raise them.

5. Build a Business Model That’s Sustainable

At the end of the day, your business should support your life—not consume it. The key is to simplify, structure, and strategize so that your business is scalable and sustainable.

Instead of constantly grinding for every dollar, build systems that allow you to:
✔ Offer scalable services (like group coaching instead of only 1:1)
✔ Create passive income (like digital courses, ebooks, or membership programs)
✔ Work with clients you actually love (instead of taking on anyone who pays)

The goal isn’t to work harder—it’s to work smarter.

Final Action Step: Create one system, offer, or boundary this week that helps your business work for you.

You Built This Business for a Reason—Now Make It Work for You

Your business should be a tool for freedom, not a source of stress. By being intentional about your schedule, pricing, boundaries, and systems, you can build a business that truly works for your life—not the other way around.

Now tell me: What’s ONE change you’re making this week to get your business working for YOU? Drop it in the comments!

How To Avoid Overwhelm in 2025

As we step into a new year, it’s easy to get caught up in all the excitement of goals, resolutions, and “new year, new you” energy. But let’s be honest—many of us start strong only to hit a wall of overwhelm a few weeks later. Between work, family, relationships, and our own personal dreams, the weight of it all can feel impossible to manage.

But here’s the good news: avoiding overwhelm isn’t about doing it all—it’s about prioritizing what matters most, setting boundaries, and giving yourself the grace to take life one step at a time. If you’re ready to make 2025 a year of peace, clarity, and intentional progress, here are five simple tips to help you leave overwhelm behind.

In

1. Start Small: Focus on One Thing at a Time

Overwhelm often comes from trying to juggle too much at once. Instead of tackling everything all at once, choose one goal, one task, or one priority to focus on at a time. If you’re working toward a big goal, break it down into smaller, manageable steps.

For example, instead of saying, “I need to completely change my morning routine,” start with one habit, like waking up 15 minutes earlier or drinking water first thing in the morning. Progress happens when you take small, consistent steps—not when you try to sprint to the finish line.

2. Set Boundaries and Protect Your Time

One of the quickest ways to feel overwhelmed is by saying “yes” to too many things. Your time is valuable, and you have to protect it. In 2025, give yourself permission to say no to things that don’t align with your priorities.

If you’re asked to take on a new project, commit to an extra event, or lend your energy to something you don’t have the capacity for, pause and ask yourself: Does this serve me or my goals right now? If the answer is no, it’s okay to decline or reschedule.

3. Create Systems That Simplify Your Life

Overwhelm thrives in chaos. To avoid it, create simple systems that keep your day-to-day life running smoothly. This might mean planning your meals for the week, creating a daily to-do list, or setting aside time every Sunday to map out the week ahead.

When you know what to expect and have a plan in place, you’re less likely to feel scattered or behind. Systems don’t have to be complicated—they just need to work for you.

4. Schedule Rest as a Priority

Let’s be clear: rest is not a luxury; it’s a necessity. If you don’t schedule time to recharge, overwhelm is inevitable. In 2025, make rest and self-care a non-negotiable part of your routine. Whether it’s a weekly reset day, 10 minutes of quiet time, or prioritizing sleep, give yourself the rest you need to show up fully.

Remember, you can’t pour from an empty cup. Taking care of yourself isn’t selfish—it’s how you sustain the energy to care for everything else.

5. Let Go of Perfection

Perfectionism is one of the biggest drivers of overwhelm. It tells us we have to do everything flawlessly or not at all. The truth is, done is better than perfect. Give yourself permission to show up as you are, take messy action, and celebrate progress over perfection.

You don’t have to have it all figured out to move forward. Focus on what you can do, and let the rest go.

Overwhelm doesn’t have to control your year. By starting small, setting boundaries, creating systems, prioritizing rest, and releasing perfection, you can step into 2025 with clarity and confidence. This is your year to focus on what matters most, create balance, and live with intention—without burning yourself out.

You’ve got this! Let’s make 2025 the year you thrive, not just survive.

5 Powerful Questions to Answer Before The New Year

The end of the year is the perfect time to slow down, check in with yourself, and reflect on how far you’ve come. Too often, we’re so busy rushing through life that we don’t stop to celebrate our wins, acknowledge our struggles, or think intentionally about the year ahead. Reflection isn’t about judgment—it’s about awareness and growth.

To help you take a pause, I’ve created 5 simple but powerful questions you can ask yourself to reflect on this past year. Whether you journal these out or just think them through quietly with a cup of tea, these questions will help you gain clarity, celebrate progress, and step into the new year with intention.

What are the moments you’re most proud of this year?

This isn’t just about “big wins.” It could be a moment where you showed up for yourself, took a risk, or made a decision that felt good in your soul. Maybe you started a new habit, walked away from something that no longer served you, or made time for joy. We get so caught up in what we didn’t do that we forget to honor what we did.

Reflect on the moments where you felt proud of yourself this year. What made you feel that way? Celebrate those moments—you earned them.

What challenges did you face, and what did they teach you?

We all face challenges, but those challenges often hold valuable lessons. Maybe this year tested your patience, your strength, or your resilience. Think about the difficult moments and ask yourself: What did I learn? How did I grow from this?

Even if it was hard (and maybe because it was hard), you are stronger for getting through it. Don’t dismiss the growth that comes from challenges—it’s part of your story, and it’s shaping the person you’re becoming.

Who or what brought you the most joy this year?

Take a moment to think about the people, experiences, or activities that filled your cup and made you smile. Who showed up for you? What moments made you feel alive, seen, or loved? When we reflect on joy, we start to notice patterns: What brings you happiness? What gives you energy?

This is a chance to give gratitude for the good things in your life and intentionally make more space for them moving forward.

What habits or routines helped you, and which ones held you back?

Our habits play a huge role in our daily peace and productivity. What routines supported you this year? Maybe it was a consistent morning walk, weekly meal prepping, or carving out time for self-care. On the other hand, what habits might be holding you back?

This question isn’t about judgment—it’s about awareness. Once you know what’s working and what’s not, you can start building routines that truly support the life you want to create.

What’s one thing you want to carry into the new year, and one thing you want to leave behind?

As you wrap up your reflection, think about what you want to bring with you into the new year. Maybe it’s a mindset shift, a new practice, or simply more confidence in yourself. Now, let go of the things that no longer serve you—whether that’s doubt, comparison, or unhealthy habits.

You get to decide what you take into the next chapter. Make that decision with intention.

Reflection is powerful because it gives you clarity. As you think through these questions, allow yourself to feel proud, grateful, and hopeful. You’ve come so far this year—even if it doesn’t always feel like it. Here’s to carrying your lessons, your growth, and your joy into the new year ahead.

You’ve got this, and I’m cheering you on every step of the way.

The Power of Community: Why We Thrive Together

In today’s hurried world, it’s easy to feel isolated, even with the internet pioneering new ways to connect with each other. While technology has given us countless ways to connect, genuine community—built on trust, shared purpose, and mutual support—remains as vital as ever. A sense of community is not just a "nice to have" aspect of life; it’s essential to our well-being, personal growth, and collective success.

Community Provides Support

At its core, community is about connection. In a community, people come together to share their experiences, joys, and struggles. This shared bond provides a safety net when life becomes overwhelming. Whether it’s a family unit, a circle of friends, a church group, or an online forum, having people who understand and support you can make all the difference. Research shows that individuals who feel connected to a community are more likely to report higher levels of happiness and lower levels of stress.

For instance, consider the role of community during challenging times. In moments of crisis—such as illness, unemployment, or loss—a strong community can provide emotional and practical support. They remind you that you’re not alone, offering comfort and assistance when you need it most. This type of support strengthens resilience, helping individuals bounce back stronger and faster.

Growth Happens in Community

While self-improvement often focuses on individual effort, true growth thrives in the context of relationships. Communities provide opportunities to learn from others, gain new perspectives, and push beyond our comfort zones. Think about professional networks, mentorship groups, or even book clubs. In these spaces, individuals come together to share knowledge and insights, fostering personal and collective development.

Community also holds us accountable. Whether it’s sticking to a fitness goal, completing a creative project, or developing new habits, having others encourage and challenge us increases the likelihood of success. The power of accountability lies in knowing that others care about your progress and are cheering for your success.

A Source of Belonging

One of the most profound gifts of community is the sense of belonging it provides. As humans, we are hardwired for connection. Feeling like we’re part of something larger than ourselves satisfies a deep psychological need. Communities give us a place to share our stories, be vulnerable, and celebrate our unique contributions.

Belonging isn’t just about fitting in—it’s about being seen and valued for who you are. Whether it’s through shared interests, values, or experiences, finding a community where you truly belong creates a foundation for emotional security and self-esteem.

The Ripple Effect

Finally, the importance of community extends beyond the individual. Strong communities create ripple effects that benefit society as a whole. They foster empathy, collaboration, and a collective sense of responsibility. When people unite, they can tackle challenges more effectively, from addressing social injustices to building sustainable futures.

In a world that often emphasizes independence, it’s worth remembering the immense power of interdependence. By investing in community, we invest in ourselves and in a better future for all. Because when we come together, we truly thrive.

What communities have impacted your life? Share your story—you might inspire someone to find or create their own.

Also, if you are a woman looking for a community do not hesitate to check out Self-Care Besties. The group opens up the last week of every month!

Self-Care After A Grueling Political Season

Why Self-Care Is Essential After This Political Season

As the political season comes to a close, many of us are left feeling emotionally drained, mentally exhausted, and perhaps even physically depleted. The constant barrage of news updates, heated debates, and polarizing rhetoric can take a toll on our well-being. Whether you were deeply engaged or tried to avoid the chaos, the emotional impact of a contentious political season is hard to escape. This is why prioritizing self-care now is more important than ever.

The Emotional Aftermath of Political Seasons

Political seasons often bring out strong emotions—hope, anger, fear, frustration, and even apathy. These feelings can lead to heightened stress, tension in personal relationships, and a pervasive sense of fatigue. If you found yourself glued to the news, doom-scrolling on social media, or arguing with loved ones, you likely experienced an emotional overload.

This constant engagement activates our stress response, flooding our bodies with cortisol and adrenaline. While these hormones are helpful in short bursts, prolonged exposure can harm our health, leading to burnout, anxiety, and even physical issues like headaches or insomnia.

Now that the season is over, it’s time to shift from external focus to internal care. Reclaiming your peace and balance is crucial—not just for yourself, but for your ability to engage meaningfully in the future.

Self-Care as a Political Act

Taking care of yourself in the aftermath of a political season isn’t just a personal necessity; it’s also a political statement. When you prioritize your well-being, you’re rejecting the notion that you must stay constantly plugged in to prove your commitment to change. Sustainable activism, advocacy, or even informed citizenship requires rest and reflection. You can’t pour from an empty cup, and self-care replenishes your ability to contribute effectively to the causes you care about.

Practical Ways to Reconnect with Yourself

1. Disconnect to Reconnect: Step away from social media and the news cycle, even if only for a few days. Use this time to focus on hobbies, creative pursuits, or activities that bring you joy and relaxation.

2. Set Boundaries: It’s okay to tell friends or family members that you need a break from political discussions. Boundaries protect your mental health and help you engage more intentionally when you’re ready.

3. Engage in Mindful Practices: Activities like meditation, yoga, journaling, or even a simple walk in nature can help you process emotions and regain your sense of calm.

4. Seek Community: Find a supportive group to share your thoughts and feelings. This might be a self-care group, a book club, or even a small gathering of like-minded individuals who value connection over conflict. If you’re currently looking for a community, you can join Self-Care Besties here)

5. Focus on Small Wins: If you’re passionate about creating change, start with manageable actions. Volunteer locally, write letters, or support grassroots organizations that align with your values.

Moving Forward with Intention

Self-care after a political season isn’t about checking out; it’s about recharging so you can show up as your best self. By taking time to rest, heal, and recalibrate, you’ll be better equipped to navigate the challenges ahead with clarity and resilience.

Remember, self-care isn’t selfish—it’s a necessity. After months of emotional investment, give yourself permission to rest. You’ve earned it.
